Eligibility & Selection Criteria
Applications are open to residents of all Developing Countries in Asia and the Pacific according to the Australian Government's definition.
Applicants need to be actively involved in Internet technical operations in any of the following capacities:
- Network engineering and network design
- Network operations and Network Operation Centre
- Internet systems engineering and systems operations
Applicants for the APRICOT Fellowship need to:
- Demonstrate suitable technical expertise in the advanced training topics selected (if applicable)
- Describe their local Internet community involvement in a technical or operational capacity
- Demonstrate financial hardship that would make participation in APRICOT otherwise impossible
Applications must be written by the applicant in their own words. Do not use AI tools, chatbots, or LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to write or substantially draft your application. The Committee is looking for genuine, personal detail about the applicant’s work and community involvement; generic or AI-generated text is easy to spot, does not reflect the applicant’s actual experience, and will count against the application.

The Fellowship Committee places particular weight on applications that:
- Clearly describe hands-on, day-to-day technical work (e.g., specific network operations, engineering, or NOC responsibilities) rather than general job descriptions
- Show concrete involvement in the applicant's local Internet community for example, participation in a NOG, IXP, CERT, or similar technical group that does not include passive membership
- Explain why it is not possible to attend the event on your own or sponsored by the employer, in the applicant's own circumstances
- Written personally, with specific, verifiable detail rather than generic or templated language
